Best Video Game Couples 2011
75Love Is In The Air
Valentine's Day is this month, so in honor of this special day of love and couples, I have put together a list of some of the best couples in video game history. To make the list, each couple has to appear in the same game (of course) and have enough evidence to show a love interest if not outright stating their love. Vote for your favorite video game couple in the poll below throughout the month of February. I have a separate poll to allow my readers to decide between Link and Midna or Link and Zelda, who the winning princess of that vote will be included as a match for Link in the first poll.
At the end of this month, the winning couple will be awarded the title of "Evvy's Top Video Game Couple" and I will then proceed to dedicate a entire hub to the couple and why they have the best love.
So without further ado (or perhaps some more if I haven't yet written enough for the good ad) here are the nominee's for the best video game couple.
Vote for Evvy's Top Video Game Couple
Who is the best video game couple?
- 29% Tidus and Yuna
- 26% Link and Midna/Zelda
- 10% Mario and Peach
- 26% Squall and Rinoa
- 1% Wander and Mono
- 0% Tatsumaru and Lady Kagami
- 2% Pac-man and Mrs. Pac-man
- 6% Master Chief and Cortana
This poll is now closed to voting.

Tidus and Yuna
One of the best couples in the Final Fantasy series, Tidus' and Yuna's relationship develop in a very believable way. The awkward fake laughing scene, I especially loved because it managed to show both how cute they were together and their developing devotion to each other. The whistle that pops up throughout Final Fantasy X and X-2 is their promise to not leave each other. The ending scene of the first game and the heartbroken expressions on both their faces is enough to reduce a gamer to tears. Their love is enough to inspire the Fayth to bring Tidus back for Yuna at the end of Final Fantasy X-2. Vote for them above.
Link and Midna/Zelda
Zelda may be the most accepted woman for Link to be in love with, but it was Midna in Twilight Princess that stuck with Link through the whole game. Despite him being in the form of a wolf and her being in the form of a weird looking imp, they both formed a close bond with each other.
Of course Zelda does inspire Link to save her or perform long, painstaking quests for her time after time so there must be something there too. But as the video on the right shows, Midna finds it quite hard to say goodbye to Link, who in turn looks fairly upset as she leaves.
Who then is the one for Link? Vote and decide!
Who is the best woman for Link?
See results without votingMario and Peach
Another classic video game couple, Mario is constantly saving Princess Peach from Bowser's neverending kidnappings. Mario is obviously devoted to the fair damsel in distress and Peach displays her gratitude with kisses on the cheek or nose, and invitations to her castle for cake. Despite being the object of Mario's numerous quests for rescue, Peach does her best to help him out, sending letters with useful information and even more helpful items at times. Despite starting out as a cliched rescuer/rescuee kind of couple, they are recently becoming closer and equals. Peach does manage to hold her own whether it be battle, tennis, are racing. But can they hold up as a couple?
Squall and Rinoa
The scene where Rinoa drags Squall to the dance floor is perhaps the most adorable dance scene ever in video games. In just a few minutes, Rinoa catches Squall's attention, has a romantic dance with him (after a few awkward attempts) and with a wink, walks away leaving him staring besotted after her. She did tell him that "you Will like me" after all. A case of opposites attract, Squall is anti-social and broody, while Rinoa is spunky and cheerful but they fall in love and fight together throughout the game. But are they the best? Your vote will decide.
Wander and Mono
I first read about the game Shadow of the Colossus from a fellow hubber. I watched the opening sequence to the game and was amazed. Who is this woman to inspire Wander to make this long journey and defeat thirteen giant creatures called Colossi in the hopes that she will be revived? She is so important to him that he undertakes this mission without hesitation despite being told that her revival will come at great cost to himself. Indeed, he doesn't even ask what the cost is, but states that it does not matter. Wander and this mysterious woman, Mono, make this list for the above reasons. Don't forget to vote if they are your favorite.
Tatsumaru and Lady Kagami
Tatsumaru and Kagami started out as enemies on either side of a war. During battle, they both fall off a cliff into the sea. For some reason, Kagami saves Tatsumaru by pulling him out of the water with her. Upon discovering his lost memory, she makes him believe he is a General in her army and he dies trying to carry out her dream, but not before a bond is formed between them of a shared dream and respect. Kagami's dying words to Tatsumaru are touching and loving despite the bad voice acting. See for yourself and vote.
Pac-man and Ms. Pac-man
They both met while fleeing from ghosts and worked together to defeat them and escape. They fell in love, married and had a baby, Pac-man Jr. Their marriage has lasted for over two decades. They both have numerous games and cartoons. A true partnership and solid relationship that has remained throughout other video games star crossed and failed loves. Vote and decide if they are the best.
Master Chief and Cortana
One of the best video game partnerships, Master Chief and Cortana fight together throughout the Halo trilogy. She chose him over all the other Spartans and he was charged with protecting her. After being separated in Halo 2, Master Chief fights through the Gravemind's forces to get Cortana back. Their reunion is very touching and truly shows the trust and respect they have for each other. But can a Spartan and a ship A.I. truly have a lasting relationship?

Great hub, cool idea,i made my vote.lol lots of info i like it,havent even heard of a couple of them,p.s sent you a PM with my website info!!
Really cool hub Evvy. A lot of information and well written. :) I'm not too much into gaming anymore and have no Valentine's spirit this year. :/ But, Thumbs Up on the Hub though. :)
Cool hub! I was just talking to somebody the other day about how it's been 25 years and Link and Zelda STILL havent made a move on each other...of course that just builds more suspense and anticipation, but gees! Now Tidus and Yuna were always a cute couple, I just wish Tidus was a little more manly and less quirky, but that's just me. :D
I have to admit, I really do like this hub a lot. Although i think Cloud and Tifa should be on this list as well, or Cloud and Aeris; from Final Fantasy VII.
Anyways, thanks for the great read, as i'll be sure to rate this one up.
Good hub,thanks for sharing.
just an fyi to the top poster, Zelda and Link are for def sure not written to be together in all the games lol. In I think only two or three they intended romance between the two. Why? Because there is a timeline, and every single Zelda is a descendant of the Zelda before and every Link is a descendant of a previous Link. It would become incest if they were together every game. I'm actually a huge Cloud/Aerith fan. They are one of my favorite couples evarr.. Because Aerith is not supposed to be fully dead because she refuses to move forward because she is in love with Cloud.. And he keeps thinking about her. (The creators said this, not me. lol.) They used her death to show how people don't just disappear after death as well as feelings etc and I think its super profound. Aerith, in her novella, (which takes place during her time in the lifestream after her death) is about her watching over Cloud and daydreaming about having a family with him one day.. And she denies Zack when he comes to her in the lifestream because she's in love with Cloud.
This is definitely a topic I've never thought about, even as an avid gamer. It was a great read!
People, play Skyward Sword and ur opinion would change for zelda and link. They were clearly meant for each other! Plus, they aren't related at all. All Zeldas are descendents of Zelda, while all Links are re-incarnations.

Love this hub! It's a very cool idea. :)
Personally, since I haven't played TP, I'm biased towards Link and Zelda, but they're fated to be together, in that "that's the way the general plot has been written since ever", so... :D
Besides, Zelda is hot. :P
As for Mario and Peach...I don't know why Mario puts up with her. It seems like all she knows how to do is get captured by Bowser. :P
